What to wear on a one-off horse ride

What to wear horse riding

Horse riding is a popular and exciting activity and choosing what to wear is just as fun. It’s important that whatever you wear is comfortable for both you and believe it or not, the horse!

Riding boots or certain sneakers

Of course proper riding boots will have you looking like a pro but if you’re heading out for a one-off ride it makes no sense to spend the money for something you may only wear once (or does it 😅).

So in the instance that you may only ever take one wild horse ride, a pair of runners with a relatively smooth sole because a high tread sole runs the risk of getting stuck in the stirrup, are the perfect solution.

Comfortable clothing

Now you’ve chosen your footwear, the next choice is comfortable clothing.

When it comes to bottoms, choosing long pants like leggings or jeans is highly recommended. This will ensure you’ll avoid the dreaded chaffing from the saddle. And again, while a nice pair of jodphurs will have you looking the part, the cost of buying jodphurs for a one-off ride does not make senses (or does it 😅)

Depending on the weather, a simple t-shirt or long sleeve shirt is all you need.

And whilst we’re all for a bit of bling, the jiggling type of accessory is not recommended. You don’t want to have anything flapping around that could distract your horse. So leave it at home just this once.

Whatever, wherever, dress up, dress down just dress for comfort.

The helmet

If heading out for a one-off trail ride or beach ride, you will be provided with a helmet by the tour guide.

Make sure it fits right, not too loose and not too tight. Have the instructor check it for you if you’re not sure and be sure you tighten the chin strap!

So there you go, a simple guide as to what to wear ready to head out an exciting adventure!
